I'm Harriet, a documentary director and producer specialising in natural history, science, and character-driven storytelling

Harriet is a director and producer working across natural history, science, and character-driven documentary, with specialised expertise in underwater production. She has worked on productions for ABC, PBS Nature, National Geographic and Disney+, and is currently directing her debut feature-length documentary, Seahorse School.

Her work is driven by a belief that science resonates most deeply when experienced through human story. She is drawn to intimate, character-led narratives that make complex ideas feel immediate, emotional and alive.

With over a decade of underwater filming experience, Harriet brings rare creative and technical capability to challenging marine environments. A former scuba instructor on the Great Barrier Reef, she works across open-circuit and closed-circuit rebreather systems and has led international shoots in tropical and temperate waters worldwide. Her experience beneath the surface allows her to film ambitious sequences safely and efficiently in remote conditions, while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with crew and contributors.

Harriet’s production career began in 2016 when her viral social films for 1 Million Women demonstrated the reach and impact of digital storytelling. She trained at AFTRS and has a background in journalism and communications, grounding her directing practice in rigorous research, thoughtful interviewing, and narrative clarity.

An Emerging League Member of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP), Harriet is committed to ethical, impact-driven storytelling. She has collaborated with conservation and science organisations, including WWF, the Australian Conservation Foundation and The Nature Conservancy. Her work has been published in The Guardian, Australian Geographic, Marriott Bonvoy Traveler, Oceanographic Magazine and The Sydney Morning Herald.

Harriet shoots on RED, Sony and Canon cinema systems, both topside and underwater. She is the co-founder of Grumpy Turtle Films, a documentary production company dedicated to powerful storytelling about the natural world.
