GREENPEACE

East Coast Marine Parks

I spent time aboard the vessel ‘Oceania’, helping to document the gorgeous marine life and coastline along the east coast.

In 2026, the Australian government began its once-in-a-decade review of the Commonwealth Marine Parks Network. More than half of Australia's Commonwealth waters fall within marine parks, but this includes zones that still permit damaging industrial activities such as bottom trawling, longlining, and oil and gas mining. Greenpeace is calling for these practices to be banned and for more fully-protected marine sanctuaries.
